Landfills are better than open dumps, but they are not the final answer in garbage disposal. Though the United States has over 6000 landfills, they are already filling up faster than expected. Because of the strict rules that landfills must follow, new disposal sites are difficult to create. It is important that landfills be taken care of properly so that they can last. It's up to each of us to cut down on garbage!
